Travelling solo, Seville your way

The world of travelling has changed significantly in recent years regarding who travels and how they do it. More and more travellers choose to go for solo adventures, becoming «Solo travellers». This trend is on the rise, especially among women, consequently destinations like Seville are already adapting to this demand, becoming «Women Friendly Destinations».

Advantages for Solo Travellers

Solo travelling is no longer a passing trend. It has consolidated due to several factors, ranging from demographic changes in society to the accessibility provided by technology. The latter allows singles to share their adventures on social media and also eases logistics processes in terms of planning, independence, and flexibility.

The market has also adapted to this segment, previously penalised, by multiplying offers and proposals aimed at it. Additionally, we are witnessing a sociocultural change that prioritises having experiences over material goods.

An enriching experience

Solo travelling not only offers benefits in terms of independence and freedom but can also be a deeply enriching personal experience. It helps to learn more about yourself, challenges you to step out of your comfort zone, and improves your social and cognitive skills. Challenges, freedom of movement, flexibility, self-learning, and the opportunity to meet new people, are values currently on the rise, all the while also being related to solo travelling.

Women prefer Solo Travel

According to a study on travel preferences conducted by Gruppit, the specialised travel portal for singles online, nearly 70% of women compared to 30% of men chose to solo travel during the first quarter of 2023. Women tend to book further in advance than men and show a preference for travelling off-season.

They prefer solo travel, seeking freedom, independence, and the opportunity to explore the world following their own interests. This way of travelling empowers people, as it does not require negotiating destinations or travel plans with family, partners, or friends. The trend is also related to changes in gender roles, values, and consumption preferences among the female segment.

Seville, Women Friendly Destination

Seville has received this certification from the specialised certification company Kiwa during the last edition of FITUR, recognizing the city as a safe destination for women. This distinction outlines the city’s leadership in promoting inclusive and respectful tourism for women, making it a national and international reference in the creation of safe tourist spaces for female travellers.
