Seville Connectivity

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, the airline industry is experiencing an unprecedented situation, becoming one of the most affected sectors due to the measures to contain the contagion. Industry experts are calling for a long recovery period (2023-2024) before we get the traffic levels of 2019.

Seville Connectivity Group

The industry has faced severe economic crises before, such as the banking crisis of 2008 and security paradigm shifts such as 9/11. However, this crisis combines the two previous ones and accelerates changes in consumer behavior and a radical restructuring of airline operators. In addition, we are now facing an armed conflict in Ukraine and a very considerable rise in prices and fuel costs.

Seville needs to give an institutional cooperative response including the private sector in accordance with these challenges and has created the Seville Connectivity Group.

It is composed of 5 permanent members:

AENA
Represented by Seville Airport and the Directorate of Aeronautical Data and Markets.

The objectives of the connectivity group are:

– Air connectivity: to recover as quickly as possible the 2019 connectivity and grow new markets in the medium/long term.

– Aeronautical industry: to boost this industry as a driver of airport attraction and business demand.

– Investment and foreign promotion: attracting foreign investment thanks to improved connectivity and favoring economic internationalization.

– Tourism and event promotion. The airport as a gateway to western Andalusia.

The foundation of the group

In 2013, the Seville Airport Provincial Board was established. Historically, the City Council of Seville has intensively promoted Seville Airport in large specialized aviation congresses together with AENA. In 2022 in the spirit of establishing greater regularity and continuity in the work of air connectivity and strengthen institutional links for this purpose the previous structure is reconsidered and the Seville Air Connectivity Group is established to work four fundamental axes: the promotion of the air industry, connectivity and development of air routes. tourism and associated events and congresses and to promote the attraction of foreign investment projects.
