Enjoy all that autumn has to offer in Seville
The second spring comes to Seville in autumn, and that’s synonymous with plans. The good weather that accompanies the season of falling leaves is the perfect excuse to go out and lose yourself in the city. Wherever you go, the terraces fill up and the bustle of the small squares will remind you that you are in a city that belongs to all seasons.
The magic of Seville is not only in its monuments and ancient buildings, but also in its way of life. If you are looking for plans, here you can enjoy a wide range of things to suit all tastes, but if you are one of those who ask for more: to live the essence itself, smell the history and feel that you are in a modern and cosmopolitan city, let yourself be surprised by this clash of tradition and modernity that few cities can boast.
But what to do in Seville? Every visitor writes their own story, but we all like to be surprised. We are not going to reveal the mystery, but we are going to help you, as good neighbours, to get to know the most famous sights and we will also give you some other useful information so that you can enjoy your visit to the full.
Shall we get started?
Most famous
This is, at first glance, what most people know about Seville. In all the guidebooks you’ll find it under the heading «What you can’t miss in…» and, of course, we agree. The Plaza de España, the Cathedral and the Real Alcázar are places of such beauty that they have inspired artists over the centuries, and films have even been shot inside them.
Family Fun
Seville is a city that is, to say the least, boring. If you come to visit with your family, you will find unlimited fun wherever you go. No matter how old you are, spending a day at Isla Mágica is a good plan, where you’ll learn a bit of history about the discovery of America and you can also test your bravery with the craziest rides. Among the annual events that the city celebrates at this time of year is the Feria de las Naciones, with activities for the whole family that will surprise you thanks to its wide range of cultural activities and international dishes. But if you prefer a calmer atmosphere, you can also visit the Seville Aquarium or the Casa de la Ciencia, a plan that will undoubtedly make you learn and enjoy yourselves at the same time.
To burn the night away
Anyone who has experienced nightlife in Seville will come back for more. The party moves from street to street, from bar to bar and ends up in the most exclusive venues or in the most picturesque spaces, some with dim lights and a strident decoration that will make you believe you are in another country. Most nightclubs close late, so you can enjoy the night almost until the sun comes up.
Music, gastronomy, cinema and creativity
The best festivals
If you like discovering new and international groups, you can’t miss Alhambra Monkey Weekend, from 23 to 25 November, and if you have an inventive mind, Offf Seville, from 14 to 16 December, is an event that brings together the most important artists on the music scene every year. And par excellence, you can’t miss the Seville Film Festival, an international benchmark that has become one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year.
City of awards
This year marks a turning point for the city, as for the first time in history the famous Latin Grammy Awards will leave the United States to be held in Seville. The event will take place on 16 November at the Palacio de Congresos y exposiciones de Sevilla (FIBES), but since September you can enjoy performances and activities in certain areas of the city. Don’t miss the most important Latin music event in an unbeatable location.
For tapas
Among the most famous is our love of tapas, which is not a monument, but one should be dedicated to this peculiar way of tasting dishes. The best thing about it is the variety on offer. The worst thing, you’ll have to be patient, because reading the menu can take you a while, as there is so much to choose from. There are many options in Seville, but a word of advice: the food markets are very lively, and it’s worth having a beer and letting yourself be carried away by their daily atmosphere.
Outdoor sports
Outdoor sports are one of the city’s handicaps. The sun is not as hot as it is in summer and physical activity in the parks or by the river is a pleasure. From skateparks to basketball courts, and if you like water sports, the calm waters of the Guadalquivir are ideal for canoeing, rowing or paddle surfing, the trendy sport that consists of sliding on a board standing up.
Crafts
Seville has a long tradition of artisans who are recognised all over the world. Leather, ceramics, tiles or all kinds of traditional fabrics are the perfect complement and a unique souvenir, just like each piece. It is worth taking a tour of these artists’ workshops to see what they are working on.
It has all the art
Art is deeply rooted in Seville, any church becomes a space where you can enjoy the works of the greatest geniuses in history. Geniuses such as Velázquez and Murillo can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts, but modern painting also has an important place. If you like avant-garde art, don’t miss the Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art. In Seville there is a good pool of talent in the capital, which also has its place in private galleries that make room for local talent.
Flamenco art
If you come to Seville you must soak up the art of flamenco. In the streets of the city you will find a multitude of flamenco tablaos and nightly shows that will get anyone dancing. And for your next visit, in 2024, come back to Seville to enjoy the Bienal de Flamenco, a world-renowned art festival with performances in many parts of the city.
