The Macarena neighbourhood

In the heart of Seville you’ll find the Macarena district, a hotbed of creativity, culture and gastronomy. Explore every corner with this tour and let the city inspire you.

Streets that breathe history

On the other side of the wall, just opposite the Puerta de la Macarena, you will find what was until 1750 the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas. This architectural jewel, today the seat of the Parliament of Andalusia, served as an exponent of a new architecture, in contrast to the motley and chaotic medieval city within the walls that existed in Seville at the time. Be sure to visit its interior and discover why it is one of the best examples of Renaissance architecture in Andalusia.

Before entering the neighbourhood, you will come across the Basilica de la Macarena, a place where art and devotion become one. The temple that houses one of the most venerated images in the world. Take this break. We continue.

Baroque and urban art

If we continue on our way along Calle San Luis, you will come to the Church of San Luis de los Franceses. This Baroque temple is considered one of Seville’s hidden gems, although looking at its exterior you can hardly imagine the majesty of its interior. Explore its ornate ceilings, its impressive altarpiece and let yourself be captivated by the atmosphere that permeates every corner.

Works by great Baroque artists combine perfectly with the urban art of the neighbourhood. Murals that adorn the façades of San Blas, among others, fill the neighbourhood with life.

A neighbourhood with a lot of art

The Macarena neighbourhood is also known for being a hotbed of creativity. As you stroll through its streets, you’ll find numerous local artists’ studios, art galleries and craft shops. Breathe in this artistic atmosphere and be amazed by the originality and passion that overflows from every corner.

El Rincón de Rosita, the El Tremendo brewery and the Yebra restaurant are some of the best-known bars in La Macarena. And the rest, you have to discover for yourself.

The creativity that you can breathe in its streets, its extensive historical heritage and the exquisite gastronomic offer make Macarena an unmissable destination on your visit to Seville.
