Real Maestranza de Caballería Headquarters

The Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla is a knightly institution created in 1670 from the former Brotherhood of San Hermenegildo or Hermandad Caballeresca and under the tutelage of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, whose original intention was the training of the nobility in arms and equestrian practice of a warlike nature in the service of the Spanish crown, in addition to the training of officers for the army.

Ten years later it will draft and approve its own ordinances, with successive reforms in 1732, 1793, 1913, 1966 and the last one in 1978. In 1730, it was the first of the cavalry masterships to be granted the privilege of being headed by a member of the Royal Family. Since its inception the institution organized public events in the city of Seville being among the first to promote equestrian sport in the same; the interest of the institution for these activities and events born the initiative of the creation of the Plaza de toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla.
