Over 2 500 people took part in Chinaweek 2024
Chinaweek 2024, held from October 18th to 23rd, brought together over 2,500 people in Seville. Participants gathered at various events throughout the week to celebrate the cultural ties between China and Seville.
Cultural exchange
«During China Week 2024, Seville became the epicenter of an unprecedented cultural exchange, linking China’s ancient heritage with the heart of Andalusia. From October 18th to 23rd, the city was alive with color, music, and Eastern traditions that captivated both locals and visitors, who enjoyed a diverse program of activities designed to highlight the cultural richness of China.
One of the most popular attractions was the gastronomic tour, which featured special menus at various restaurants and an exciting showcooking event. Held on October 19th, this event brought together local chefs and Chinese cuisine experts to offer a unique showcase of Asian flavors. Attendees delighted in dishes that highlighted the freshness of Chinese ingredients, creating a sensory experience that transported everyone to the heart of Chinese culinary culture.
Activities for everyone to enjoy
For the youngest, China Week offered a series of creative workshops that were a complete success. Children of all ages took part in playful activities that introduced them to the Chinese language and culture in a fun way. Calligraphy and craft workshops delighted the little ones, who also enjoyed the ‘Dragon Dance’ outside the facilities of Marqués de Contadero. There were also special workshops for schools, with different institutions taking part on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings. These activities promoted learning and sparked curiosity about Eastern culture.
In addition to the gastronomy and workshops, the lectures were a key component of the week. On October 18th, researcher J. San Bernardino kicked off the talks with a lecture on the historical connections between Seville and China. Throughout the week, other experts, such as Dr. Juan Carlos Crespo, addressed topics like traditional Chinese medicine, while Dr. Kurt Grotsch discussed the Silk Roads, both in their historical context and their contemporary significance. These talks gave attendees the opportunity to reflect on the historical ties that connect both cultures.
The bond between China and Seville
The event also included exhibitions such as the one at the Flamenco Dance Museum and the digital exhibition Minzú, both available throughout the week and helping to bring the artistic richness of Chinese culture closer to the people of Seville. In the sports realm, China Cultural Week also hosted a table tennis tournament between Sevilla FC players, including Nemanja Gudelj and Gemma Gili, and the Chinese community, which was also a complete success.
