Opera at the Real Alcázar of Seville

The famous “Carmen de Bizet”, “Don Giovanni de Mozart”, “Las Bodas de Fígaro” … more than one hundred works are inspired in Seville, a city closely link to the world of Opera. The city spreads out as a great theatre and every corner is liable to become the scene of a big work.

In fact, this year, El Patio de la Montería and los Jardines del Real Alcázar of Seville will become, for the first time, in the stage of a opera cycle. The first show will be the ‘Concierto de Primavera del Ateneo’ of Seville and it will take place on 11th June. Three other shows will take place at the Real Alcázar in September, October and November, as a part of Sevilla Opera Nights project.

These shows develop themselves in the framework of the cycle “Seville, city of opera”, in which the town hall has three collaborations: el Ateneo, the Fundación Caja Rural and the Asociación de Casa Palacio of Seville.

The Alcazar is filled with Opera

José Luis Sanz, Seville’s mayor, presented the programme in the Salón de Embajadores of the Alcázar, in the presence of some of the artists, as the director of the Banda Sinfónica Municipal, among others.

La Traviata will be the first show and it will take place on 11th June, with a concert version for voices and wind orchestras by the Banda Sinfónica Municipal of Seville and it will have important and renowned personalities from the music’s world: Fernando Fabiani as narrator, the soprano Mariola Cantarero, the tenor Arturo Garralón or the baritone Andrés del Pino, as well as the Coro del Ateneo of Seville.

 

 

Operas inspired by the city

On 26th September the seventh Concierto Taurino de San Miguel will take place accompanied by the Banda Sinfónica that will be called “La Ópera y los toros”. Likewise, in October and November, the Real Alcázar will join the Sevilla Opera Nights project, with the representation of María Padilla, in the Alcázar, on 5th and 19th October, based on María Padilla by Gaetano Rossi from Verona. The artist that will take part in this Ópera will be Ana Troncoso (soprano), Hilario Abad (baritone) and Luis del Ojo (pianist). In addition, the work is set in the Alcázar itself.

Additionally, it will be possible to enjoy of La Favorita at the Alcázar on 9th and 23rd November. A work based on Gaetano Donizetti’s La Favorita, set in the gardens of the enclave itself. The interpreters will be Ana Troncoso (soprano), Jesús Velázquez (tenor) and Luis del Ojo (pianist).
