In the area of the Cartuja closest to Triana, there are three first-class exhibition spaces.
The Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) occupies what was for centuries the Monastery of Santa María de las Cuevas, a full house where Christopher Columbus prepared some of his voyages and an emblem of Expo 92. You’ll love the contrast between the artistic and archaeological heritage it treasures and the bold proposals of modern art.

A couple of hundred meters along the Guadalquivir River, you will find the Navigation Pavilion, a building shaped like an inverted boat that was designed by the Sevillian architect Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra also for the universal exhibition. Today, the Navigation Pavilion hosts all kinds of exhibitions thanks to its multifunctional nature, but without forgetting its inspiring theme: Seville’s relationship with the maritime world and the era of the great expeditions.

Just opposite, you have the brand new cultural center of Seville: the Caixaforum. Also the work of Vázquez Consuegra, the Caixaforum stands out for the quality and variety of its exhibitions.

This is where Expo 92 took place
The Isla de la Cartuja was «recovered» by Seville when in 1992 it hosted the Universal Exposition commemorating the V Centenary of the Discovery of America. In addition to the enhancement of its historical relevance, Expo 92 bequeathed to this enclosure newbuildings and monuments of great showiness.
