Catalina de Ribera Gardens

In 1862 Patrimonio Real granted the City Council of Seville a large part of the so-called Huerta del Retiro, which until then was integrated into the Alcazar grounds.

Catalina de Ribera Gardens

In 1898 they received their current name, dedicated to Catalina de Ribera, the lady who founded the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas (currently the seat of the Parliament of Andalusia).

From 1920 the arrangement of the gardens as we know it today is carried out under the direction of the architect Juan Talavera. It is then when its most emblematic elements are introduced: the monument to Catalina de Ribera and the monument to Columbus, located in the center of the gardens.
