Carmen Chapel
There is no smaller and more unique chapel
It was built in 1928 by the architect Aníbal González. Built with clean brick and Triana ceramics, it is a small but beautiful monument. As in the Plaza de España, Aníbal González collaborated in this work with the ceramist Emilio García García. The building of brick and ceramic trianera is composed of two bodies, the chapel itself and a bell tower octagonal, reminiscent of the shape of a «lighter» of tinder so it is given that name popularly. In the tiles of the dome of the chapel the coat of arms of Carmen is represented. The chapel is topped with a small temple in which are Santa Justa and Rufina and the Giralda. The door of the chapel is of glazed grille, which allows the worship permanently.
The chapel’s door is glazed, allowing for permanent worship.
This remodeling is indicative of the importance of the monastery, which is not only relevant in the medieval centuries, but also remains so during the later centuries. Architecturally it is a heterogeneous set of buildings, built in different periods and styles, from the sixteenth to the seventeenth century. In the monastery are described two distinguishable facts, the exhibition halls and the church.
