Basilica del Cachorro

On the origin of his name there are two versions. On the one hand the theological, in which Christ is the Cub of the Lion of Judah, who is God. On the other hand, tradition affirms that the Cachorro was the nickname of a gypsy from Triana de las Herrerías, who, because of the many charms he possessed, was a great conqueror. One night when the Cachorro was returning from one of his amorous adventures, he was met by a mocked husband or boyfriend, who without saying a word, stabbed him. At that moment the sculptor was passing by, who could not find a face that would satisfy him for his Christ. Hearing the cries of the crowd, he approached. At that moment the gypsy was dying, and taking a few brief notes, he used them to capture in his work the last moments of the life of a man. In the following Holy Week all recognized in the face of the Christ of the Expiration of the Brotherhood of the Patronage the famous Puppy of Triana.
