4 keys to enjoy the ‘Feria’ away from home
The ‘Feria de Sevilla’ is one of those festivities that almost everyone wants to experience at least once in their lives. Crossing the ‘Portada’ is an indescribable sensation for Sevillians and for those who visit Seville and want to discover the idiosyncrasy of the city from the inside.
But if this year it is not possible for you to go to the ‘Feria’, we suggest you to enjoy it from home and live a unique experience. It will make you feel a little closer to the ‘Real’.
1. Turn the ceiling of your house into a 'cielo de farolillos’ ('lantern sky').
What is a caseta (stand) without farolillos (lanterns)? Since its origins, paper farolillos have decorated the streets of the ‘Real’, becoming one of the hallmarks of the ‘Feria’. In order to feel like you are in Seville, wherever you are, you can make your own ‘farolillos’. The level of complexity in their design and elaboration is up to you, although if you don’t want to complicate things too much, the easiest way is to cut an A4 sheet of paper into strips without reaching the edges. Once cut, join the ends together to form a sphere, which will simulate this fairground icon.
2. Dare to paint a homemade pañoleta (kerchief)
All you need is a large piece of cardboard folded in half to make a triangle, which will be used to create your very own ‘pañoleta’. The ‘pañoletas’ mark the ‘casetas’ and include the name and number of them. Either by emulating the ‘caseta’ you have not been able to go to this year or imagining the one you would like to have, you can paint your own ‘pañoleta’ and give it the name you like the most. In the entrance of your house or on a special wall, any place is a good place to remember the ‘Feria de Abril’.
3. Celebrate your own 'Pescaíto'
The ‘Feria’ is a time to get together, to enjoy together with the people we love. Therefore, a good option is to celebrate it with friends wherever you are. On Saturday night, the traditional and special ‘sábado de pescaíto’ is celebrated, you can simulate it to feel like in Seville. The fairground decoration will accompany the night, in which you can’t miss ‘pescaíto frito’ and ‘rebujito’.
4. Enjoy the rhythm of Seville
Whether in your home ‘pescaíto’ or in the leisure moments of the week, listening to music from the fair is essential to emulate the fair and enjoy it as if you were there. ‘Sevillanas’, ‘rumbas’, ‘bulerias’… let the sound of Seville fill your home and brighten up any gathering. You can enjoy a selection prepared especially for the ‘Feria’ with the playlist ‘Pasión por la Feria’.
In short, it is also possible to enjoy the Feria outside Seville, although going to the ‘Real’ is a unique experience that you have to live at least once in your life.
